7 Ways To Deal With Terrarium Mold

Mold appears to be a problem for many terrarium owners. Mold may develop due to a variety of issues, like terrariums may be difficult to clean, insufficient light is available, or there may be an overabundance of moisture in the container. Mold spores are unavoidable, and it’s nearly impossible to keep them all out. However, you can take steps to avoid mold from forming in your terrarium!

Here are the 7 Ways To Deal With Terrarium Mold:

1. Springtails

Springtails are useful since they consume all sorts of mold in terrariums and can be found easily at terrarium shops.

2. Baking Soda

Baking soda has been observed and proven to destroy mold. Sprinkle baking soda over your terrarium and spray with water every few days until all mold development is gone.

3. Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is effective in the eradication of fungus. Make a pot of chamomile tea and pour it over your terrarium to keep mold away. Before removing the terrarium lid, allow the chamomile tea to seep through the terrarium bedding.

4. Hydrogen peroxide

Mix 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 3 parts water for terrariums where mold is plentiful. Pour this mixture over the terrarium and allow it to seep through the terrarium bedding. Spray the mixture on a daily basis until all mold growth has been eradicated.

6. Vinegar

Soak the afflicted areas of terrarium wood in a solution of 1 part household bleach to 9 parts water for around 20 minutes. Remove the wood and clean it with a scrub brush to remove any residue. Submerge the terrarium wood in a solution of equal portions bleach and water to rinse away the remains.

7. Take your terrarium outside and let it air out.

Mold flourishes with moisture, so reducing both the humidity and overall water level in the container by opening up a sealed terrarium will aid to minimize both and ultimately hinder mold growth.
